How I got introduced to Zentangle®
I first came across the term Zentangle about a year ago. I was casually browsing the internet when I came across a beautiful hand drawn pattern. Intrigued, I dug up more on it and came across the word ‘Zentangle®’. The Zentangle Method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

I started looking for places where I could learn this technique. Unfortunately, there were no classes being held in Mumbai at that time. So, through the Facebook group, I came across a Certified Zentangle Teacher Sandhya Manne who was also conducting Skype classes for those who wanted to learn this. I enrolled and she sent me this lovely starter kit.
Contents of the kit –
4 tiles (two original and two generic tiles)
A pencil with the word Zentangle inscribed on it
A blending stump for shading
A Sakura Pigma Micron 01 pen
After fixing a date and time which worked for both of us, we had a two hour training session where she taught me the basics. She put a soothing background music to add to the whole experience. And this is my first tile –
This was about a year ago. I am neither an artist nor am I into drawing and you can also see that my hand is a little unsteady in some of the patterns above. However, like my teacher put it, it’s not the final outcome that ultimately matters, it is more about the experience – how I get involved in it and feel about the whole process. Ever since the first session, I have learnt quite a lot of new patterns but have not been able to practice as much as I would like to. However I intend to practice more now on and share them here.
