Those of you who know me know my love for tattoos. I have two as of now, both on my inner forearms. On my left forearm is a tattoo of my daughter’s name which I got done in Jan 2014 and the second one is a Phoenix on my inner right forearm which I got in the second week of June this year.
I get asked a lot of questions about my tattoos. Here are some of the most commonly asked ones-
Does it pain?
Yes it does. But nothing unbearable. First time I got it done, I did not know what to expect. So I was a little scared and so it seemed to pain more. Second time around, it was more smoother since I knew what to expect.
Are you crazy?
This is the second most common question I get asked. No I am not. You cannot call me crazy for getting a tattoo unless I have the name of my daughter’s friend’s mother’s aunt’s cat’s name tattooed on my arm because I hate her for swallowing my goldfish.
Why did you have to do it?
My fascination with tattoos started in my childhood. Me and my brother used to watch this TV show called “Miami Ink” and were totally smitten. My brother got one (now he has two) as soon as he turned 18. I could not muster the courage to get one until about 2.5 years ago when I got my first one. It’s my daughter’s name on my inner left wrist. Coming back to the question why I got it done, for one I love the art form. I really love it for the fact that you can express your innermost and deepest emotion, feeling or belief on your body. It does not have to be a big and elaborate tattoo. Even the smallest of tattoo can convey a lot of meaning.
Do you plan to get more?
Hell yes! Even as I was sitting in the tattoo studio getting my latest one done, I was thinking about my next one. When? I don’t know. It may be after a week, or a month or a year. But when I feel strongly about the motive, design and time, I will get it done. I can definitely relate to it when they say that you cannot just stop at one tattoo. It is addictive!
Where did you get it done?
I got both of my tattoos done at Body Canvas, Malad. I trust them with my tattoos for many reasons. For one, the artists are brilliant. Secondly, I don’t have to worry about the quality of ink or hygiene issues there. Everything is taken care of without asking for it.
